Dr. Mazyar Malakouti decided to specialize in gastroenterology because it provides him with the opportunity to diagnose and treat a broad scope of conditions. Dr. Malakouti truly enjoys helping others and appreciates the privilege to be in a profession where he can participate in the personal care of patients. His special areas of interest are inflammatory bowel disease and liver-related conditions.

Dr. Malakouti is a recipient of the Steven Schenker Research Award from UT Health San Antonio as well as an editorial board member for the Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology.

Outside of the office, Dr. Malakouti enjoys spending time with his wife and their families. He also enjoys playing soccer, hiking, traveling, and outdoor activities. Dr. Malakouti is also fluent in Farsi (Persian) in addition to English.
