Dr. Anita Steephen was born and raised in India, but has lived in the United States for the past 18 years. She completed medical school in Bangalore, India, where she graduated with honors. Dr. Steephen finished her internal medicine residency from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and then did her gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Texas in Houston. After completing her fellowship, she was on faculty at the University of Texas in Houston for about 7 years before venturing into private practice. During that time, she was actively involved in teaching medical students and training gastroenterology fellows. Dr. Steephen has co-authored several papers in gastroenterology journals and presented various papers at national gastroenterology meetings. Dr. Steephen moved to the Flower Mound area in 2001, started her own practice, and then, in January 2004, joined Texas Digestive Disease Consultants. Dr. Steephen is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. She is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association and American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Steephen’s special interests include women’s issues in gastroenterology, colorectal cancer screening, nutrition, and diseases of the liver and bile ducts.

Dr. Steephen has three children and enjoys reading, gardening, and traveling.
